Where to eat in Ibiza - flash anthology

This year was my first time in Ibiza. First ever. We went just before the season started so skipped the clubs and instead made the most of the quietest beaches, got drunk on endless sunshine, and refuelled with delicious meal after meal. Though one of my favourite things to do was hit the supermarket and pack a boozy picnic for the beach, we indulged at a fair few delicious restaurants too, so I thought I’d go ahead and share my best eats on the island. Course, there are TONNES of amazing restaurants on Ibiza, these are just some not-too-pricey spots I think you’re gonna like…

fish shack

Chances are you’ve heard about Fish Shack from friends already. It’s everyone’s favourite ultra-under-the-radar spot. No menu, no social presence, just there because of word of mouth recommendations, the ‘fish shack’ at the end of Talamanca beach has grown into quite the Ibiza institution. You squeeze in on plastic tables and chairs among the locals and eat whatever they catch that day, always served with salad and potatoes. Delicious.

la bodega

One of the best places to eat in Ibiza Town, La Bodega is a popular spot just near the walled gate of the Old Town. It’s traditional tapas with reasonable prices and it has a great atmosphere indoors, along with a handful of outdoor tables that are perfect for soaking up the last of the sun. Expect all your favourites — ham croquettes, pulpo, fried calamari, patatas bravas… you should order the lot. Call up early and book a table though, or else you’re looking at a 2+ hour wait. It’s no secret.

rincón del puerto

An unassuming little spot a street back from the marina front, Rincón del Puerto does great pasta if you’re looking for a break from all the tapas. We shared the salt-baked sea bream and the tagliatelle Parmesan, which did not disappoint. The homemade pasta was cooked in a giant Parmesan wheel, making the most heavenly, rich and creamy sauce. So good. We wanted to go back the next night but we vowed to try elsewhere…!

passion cafe

Passion Cafe is everything you could want from a brunch spot with a crazy amount of choices, perfect for when you’re feeling hungover and a little fickle… It’s got a bit of an LA vibe too it with a whole ‘healthy’ section and half the people in there drinking green smoothies, but there’s really something for everyone (including 5 or so avocado on toast varieties!) and the portions are giant. You won’t need lunch.

restaurante sa caleta

A slightly pricey but highly recommended spot, Restaurante Sa Caleta is the only restaurant on Sa Caleta beach and is perfect for a long leisurely lunch in the middle of a blissful beach day. (Sa Caleta is one of my favourite beaches on Ibiza and definitely worth a dip…) Grab a table in the sunshine, share a bottle of perfectly chilled white wine and the black squid ink paella. It’s perfect.

benirrás pizzeria

On Sunday nights, half of Ibiza flocks to Benirrás beach on the North Coast of Ibiza (a sandy, sun kissed spot) to watch and dance along with the sunset drumming ritual that takes place each and every week. There’s music, there’s energy, there’s loads of people, it’s fun! Take your own supermarket beers or grab a plastic-cup caipirinha from one of the bars and settle in. When you get hungry, order takeout pizza from Benirrás Pizzeria at the top of the beach and eat it out the box, on the sand. Proper bliss.
